MARUNI WOOD INDUSTRY INC.

"Showa Bentwood Factory", established in 1928 was the forerunner of "Maruni Wood Industry Inc." which was established in 1933.
The "Versailles", a product line released in 1968 was officially recognized as the "first western furniture that won the biggest market in history of Japan", and therefore Maruni Wood Industry Inc. has grown to be the top selling furniture manufacturer in Japan at that time.

In the 1980's, Maruni was the first among competitors to launch the concept of "Total Coordination", as opposed to the conventional trend of selling furniture as a single item or as a combination set. We arranged the prestigious European classic design to the trend of those days, and pursued the beauty and function in maintaining unity of the interior design as a whole. Furthermore, We strengthened our overseas production in order to maintain a stable supply of wood material and to boost cost competitiveness.

Today, Maruni is laying the groundwork for further success, aiming at making furniture that are "people-friendly" and "earth-friendly". But at the same time, We are promoting new activities with outside designers, such as the Nextmaruni and Maruni Collection, utilizing the techniques acquired from our history of 80 years.

Craftsmanship

Seeking for unchanging value, even in the changing times.

Maruni first started out with a strong and beautiful bentwood chair.
Those were literally days of challenge for the craftsmen, as they struggled to figure out how to industrialize/systemize the intricate techniques, which had only been made possible by handiwork. Their sense of mission to produce good furniture was what had supported the craftsmen at those hard times.

This "craftsmanship mind" has been carried on for the full 80 years of Maruni's history. We continue to devote ourselves to improving our techniques, and to produce lifestyle furniture that would be cherished for a long period of time. Even when family structures or lifestyles change along with the times, Maruni will always be aiming at one goal - to make furniture with universal value. Seeking for unchanging value, even in the changing times.

To shape the standard of your future lifestyle.

"Furniture is a piece of artwork. A chair must be made so that the person sitting in it would look beautiful."
These words were often heard during Maruni's starting years. We believe that furniture has the power to brighten up not just the people using it, but also their whole lifestyle.

We are now challenging ourselves to explore the creativity of furniture-making, by exchanging ideas not just with our Maruni staff, but with talented designers from all over the world. The objective is to exchange ideas freely and daringly, with the following theme: traditional furniture which make the users feel attached to it as they continue to use it. We are confident that the product born from this project would value the identity of Japanese furniture, but would undoubtedly be a unique "made by Maruni" furniture. We will keep on challenging ourselves to shape the standard of your future lifestyle.
