This year, the Maruni Collection marks its 6th year since it was announced in 2008.
From the “Hiroshima”, designed by Naoto Fukasawa, we have added a beautiful wooden folding chair with silky surface, as well as a solid wood dining table, the “Malta”. This table goes well with any chair from the Maruni Collection and has a simple and warm design.
We also added a comfortable, relaxing armchair from the “Lightwood”, designed by Jasper Morrison. It uses a matt white color that has an impressive, subtle nuance.
For fabric, we have added a new pale blue color to the vivid and rich “SAGA”, and we are adding 4 colors that produce great color on smooth leather while keeping the nature leather texture.
Also, we are announcing two new projects for 2013: the “Asian Bench”, bench and stool designed by Naoto Fukasawa that fits in well with your everyday life, and the “Botan”, a bench designed by Jasper Morrison that can be enjoyed outdoors.
Maruni Wood Industry (head office: Hiroshima Pref.), celebrating our 85th anniversary in this May, will be presenting an exhibition at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in the Fiera main exhibition complex. This is the first time that Maruni will have our own individual booth at the Fiera main exhibition complex.
From our first exhibition in 2008, Maruni Collection has been adding products little by little as our world view has been expanding accordingly. This year, Maruni will be presenting a folding chair that has inherited a form with the presence of an armchair and a comfort that envelopes one’s body from the Hiroshima concept by Naoto Fukasawa, which has been receiving high praise since when it was launched, as well as an armchair from the Lightwood concept designed by Jasper Morrison. Also included in our exhibition is the Malta, dining table, made of solid wood that provides a simplicity and warmth enabling it to be matched with nearly any type of chair.
Besides, we’ll also show Asian Bench, designed by Naoto Fukasawa, that simply melts into your daily life, and the Botan bench from Jasper Morrison that can be enjoyed outdoors as well.
Our art director, Naoto Fukasawa, will again organize the exhibition site as he did last year.
This is the sixth year for the Maruni Collection. Maruni will continue presenting refined Japanese craftsmanship and our aesthetic sense to rediscover original spirits of the wood.. We are greatly looking forward to your visit.
Two series which have received much attention since being announced last Spring will finally be in store: the Club by Jasper Morrison and a detailed remodeling of the Traditional Series done by Naoto Fukazawa.
Our attempt to refine traditional furniture to match modern lifestyles has been our mission ever since we launched the MARUNI COLLECTION. The Club has broadened its perspective even more. Indulge in Maruni’s new world; a fusion of gentle forms with traditional beauty and fine craftsmanship.

In 2008, we have launched the Maruni Collection together with Naoto Fukasawa. We have come face to face with the designer and taken our time to design and launch new products for this collection focusing mainly on the Hiroshima series. Last year the Roundish by Naoto Fukasawa and Lightwood by Jasper Morrison have been launched as one of the new series, and the collection now has a broader range of products.
This year the Lightwood has added new variations to its family; A bar stool made for commercial use but will also match residential counter height tables, and also stools to match both counter and table heights. We would also like to introduce again the Roundish with cushioned seats which were announced last fall, now available with more variations in colors.
As another aim of Maruni Collection, it has been challenging in redesign and refinement of Maruni Wood Industry’s traditional lines of furniture since the start of the collection. Jasper Morrison’s Club (*) has become part of this approach this year. The sofa of the previously announced Traditional Series by Naoto Fukasawa has also been modified in small details which gives a different new look (*).
*These new items will be available autumn 2012.
This autumn, new items with wealth of options will be added to the Maruni Collection: the Hiroshima series which has become the standard series of Maruni Wood Industry, and the Roundish and Lightwood series that were newly announced this spring.
Roundish chair will now be available with the cushioned seat, which creates a beautiful oneness with the wood. The fabric used is the same as that of Hiroshima, making it easy to match colors with both series. Elegant autumn-like textures such as the beautiful Belgian fabric with rich colors and refined ivory colored leather have been newly added. Now with the comfort of the cushioned seat, the new Roundish chair provides a more relaxed and comfortable sitting with its pleasant seat and back that fits to the body.
Lightwood will now be available in red and black finished birch; two colors that will look good with the birch’s texture; and oak which is known for its bold wood grains. The new color finishes that have been applied thinly to the wood surface give an elegant look combined with the silhouette of the chair and lightly noticeable wood grains. It is graceful but still has an eye-catching existence. The Corian top tables for Lightwood, which have been receiving many inquiries, will also be available for ordering.
Table sizes will be as follows: Roundish- W1600, 2000, 2400 (mm); and Lightwood- W1300, 1600, 1800, 2000, 2200, 2400 (mm). These multiple size options will help design any space.
*Corian table top is only available for Lightwood.
For Hiroshima, ithe much-awaited walnut material is now available. Walnut will be available for the Armchair (wooden and cushioned seat), and the dining table (160/180/Extension table). The striking wood grains and the rich coloration of the walnut give deep relaxation and a luxurious look.

The Hiroshima Arm chair will be available in a new walnut material from this fall. We have been receiving many requests about making this chair in walnut. The beautiful and clear wood grains of the walnut together with the exquisite design of the Hiroshima created an arm chair that has certain gravity in style and elegance, where you would want to rest your body deeply onto.
New wood materials and different finishes have gradually been added since the launch of the chair in 2008, and now there will be a total of 8 different options available for the Hiroshima Arm chair. We hope that you will be able to experience the comfort of the chair and the fascination of walnut which our design and technology was able to draw out by determining the wood’s nature.

We have released Maruni Collection 2011 — the two new furniture series — at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile.
Roundish by Naoto Fukasawa literally has a striking roundish curve in the back and seat. The view from the back is especially beautiful. The back is created with three different curvature. This exquisite curve in the back and seat lets the sitter fit comfortably as if the chair is wrapped around your body. This chair gives you a sense of ease as well as relaxation.
Jasper Morrison’s Lightwood is also literally named for it’s lightweight feature- only 2.5 to 3kg. It is suitable for variety of uses due to its different choice of the seat; fabric, leather, webbing and mesh. Its elegantly curved legs and the lightweight looking structure are some of the reasons for its sculpture-like beauty.
Both chairs made use of the masterful craftsmanship and the fineness of machine manufacturing that Maruni Wood Industry excels in. From this well-thought design and exquisite construction, we are sure that you will be able to feel its comfort, the strong durability which makes it long-lasting, the flavor that adds over time, and the fascination and possibility of these wooden furniture.

This year, we are commemorating the third year since the launch of the Hiroshima series, and would like to introduce a new color: mat white.
The soft milky white color wraps the Hiroshima like a veil, and it still keeps the dignified appearance. Its shading is much more gentle, and its faint shine is impressive. It will look good in light-filled dining or kitchen areas near the window. The white Hiroshima even looks like a sculpture with the mat finish.
Please enjoy the feel that can only be experienced with this particularly chosen color and shape.
The new color will be available for ordering from February 1st, in 19 countries including Japan.
