Maruni Collection 2010 / New items are available from the Hiroshima series
New items have been added to the Hiroshima series.
A small comfortable chair that follows the same look as the Hiroshima armchair, and the ottoman that can be used as a set with the Hiroshima lounge chair will be newly added to the Hiroshima series.
There will also be a new coated color; brown for the oak wood, which will give a polished look, and we will also be introducing leather for the seat covers exclusively for this brown color. Now with natural, black and brown color options for the wood, we hope to give more choice variations to meet the customer’s taste for styling their home.
---
Rather than a chair created through the assembly of square pieces of timber, what has been fashioned is a small chair with an untouched feel to it that appears as though it has been hewn from a single log. The rounded back of the chair, which follows the contour of the human back, overlaps with the image of the Hiroshima armchair. Along with the new ottoman coupled with the lounge chair, try the subtle, rich feel sitting in this chair affords.

* New items will be shown on the Product Pages of Maruni Collection in late March.

Beautiful appearance. – Shoe-horn designed by nendo
When you lift the top part of the cone, the shoehorn comes away like a conic section. As the name suggests, shoehorns were first made by carving animal horns; the shearing motion of the shoe-horn pays homage to its origins. The shoehorn and stand, connected by an embedded neodymium magnet, are carved from a single block of wood for complete continuity of the wood grain. The shoehorn can be removed with one hand; the stand is weighted for proper resistance.

Cord-chair designed by nendo has been born
The Cord-chair, a collaboration with Nendo, has legs only 15 mm in diameter.
Rather than assembling wood panels around 9mm stainless steel frame, we decided to hollow out pieces of wood to clad each part of the frame. We were particularly interested in showing off the flawlessness of the wood material. Each of the chair's parts is carved from wood, left simple and undecorated to bring out the flawlessness of the material. Since each part is only 3 mm wide, the chair must be made by hand, rather than with mass-production machinery. Each chair is carved by artisans who took special care to align the wood grain. The Cord-chair is not about the kind of 'mechanical beauty' that seeks the least common multiple in form and structure. Rather, with the Cord-chair, nendo wanted to explore the relationship between materials like the metal wiring within an electrical cord and the rubber that encases it. Like reinforced concrete, the chair separates and highlights the role of each element. It liberates wood from structure, allowing the material's natural warmth and softness to come into sharp focus, and bringing out its greatest common denominator.

MARUNI COLLECTION 2009 / AUTUMN BY NAOTO FUKASAWA Introduction to New Items
The MARUNI COLLECTION 2009 that we announced in February of this year had new living room items from the HIroshima series, such as the sofa, which would be a key item in creating a luxurious life style.
For 2009 / Autumn, we would like to introduce more items that will enrich the living space. These new items include an exquisite sideboard, a simple coffee table and new fabric variations which will be matching to the sofa and lounge chair that were announced earlier this year. (All available from Hiroshima) Also, we have a new extendable table added to the dining room items, from both Hiroshima and Traditional Series. This table was produced in response to many requests from our clients.
Maruni Collection will expand its world slowly, by carefully taking the necessary time. We are proud to say that the designer and our technicians spend an enormous amount of time and effort into the respectful manufacturing process. We hope that these new items will again show the comfort and carefulness that we continuously put importance to.

Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2009 / Kazuyo Sejima & Ryue Nishizawa of SANAA
The Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2009 has opened from July 12th. The Pavilion which will only be open for a limited time, has been designed by renowned architects every year. This year’s Pavilion was designed by SANAA, who is also one of the designers of Nextmaruni. Nextmaruni’s armless chairs are placed throughout the spacious site.
The Pavilion is floating aluminium, drifting freely between the trees like smoke. The reflective canopy undulates across the site, expanding the park and sky. The contrast of the appearance of surrounding landscape and green is beautiful and impressive.
We hope you will enjoy the visit.
