Maruni Collection 2012 / Tokyo Exhibition

Maruni Collection 2012 will be shown for the first time in Japan at the Tokyo Exhibition this month. The exhibition will be focused on the new counter chairs and stools from the Lightwood family designed for both commercial and residential use, and the Roundish that was announced last fall with new upholstered seats, which are already well-received for its sitting comfort.
We will also display Jasper Morrison’s Club (*) and Naoto Fukasawa’s sofa from the previously announced Traditional Series (*) which has been modified in small details. These are part of Maruni Wood Industry’s challenge in redesign and refinement of our traditional models. (* The two items will be available this fall.)

Maruni Collection 2012 – New Items

This year the Lightwood has added new variations to its family; A counter chair made for commercial use but will also match residential counter height tables, and also stools to match both counter and table heights. We would also like to introduce again the Roundish with cushioned seats which were announced last fall, now available with more variations in colors.

As another aim of Maruni Collection, it has been challenging in redesign and refinement of Maruni Wood Industry’s traditional lines of furniture since the start of the collection. Jasper Morrison’s Club (*) has become part of this approach this year. The sofa of the previously announced Traditional Series by Naoto Fukasawa has also been modified in small details which gives a different new look (*).
*These new items will be available this autumn.

- Redesigning Maruni Wood Industry’s traditional furniture:
Maruni Wood Industry has a long history of manufacturing traditional western style furniture, and many people today still have a fondness for the style. Therefore, we have included some tasteful traditional pieces into the modern Maruni Collection as an experiment. Although traditional furniture can look old-fashioned at first sight, it is true that such an “old-fashioned-ness” is also associated with our sense of comfort. Based on that, we slightly modified the materials and upholsteries of these traditional pieces.

We will mainly showcase the two designs; Roundish by Naoto Fukasawa and Lightwood by Jasper Morrison, which were announced last year and already receiving favorable reviews.
The comfortable Roundish Chair that lets the sitter feel embraced by its curved back is now available with a cushioned seat. With the option of the cushion, the combination of the wood and fabric give an alluring look. The Lightwood known for its lightness and sculptural beauty will announce a new counter chair and stool. And there will also be a new series added to the Traditional Series, which also drew attention for our challenge in refining Maruni Wood Industry’s traditional furniture to match our current lifestyle.
Our art director, Naoto Fukasawa, will again organize the exhibition site. We’ve added a rather classic flavor to the atmosphere at the site so as to match the style of that of the Tokyo showroom. Any of our furniture would match well to the space and create a harmonious atmosphere.
We will strive to introduce the fascination and potential of the Japanese wooden furniture through high design quality and exquisite product manufacturing technology.

MARUNI COLLETION at SILVERA (France)

We would like to announce that the Hiroshima, Roundish, and Lightwood will be displayed at “SILVERA”, an interior shop in France starting this month. They will be carrying our furniture, and this will mark a new start of Maruni Wood Industry in the French market. There will be an official launch party titled “MARUNI COLLECTION at SILVERA” during MAISON&OBJET to commemorate our first launch in France. On the 20th of January when this party will be held, we will be welcoming Jasper Morrison, the designer of Lightwood to the party. He’ll share his thoughts about how our furniture is appealing and characteristic. This exhibition at SILVERA will be an ideal and fantastic occasion to show our furniture’s attractiveness. We all look forward to your visit.

New options and items available for Roundish, Lightwood and Hiroshima

This autumn, new items with wealth of options will be added to the Maruni Collection: the Hiroshima which has become the standard series for Maruni Wood Industry, and the Roundish and Lightwood that were newly announced this spring.

Roundish chair will now be available with the cushioned seat, which creates a beautiful oneness with the wood. The fabric used is the same as that of Hiroshima, making it easy to match colors with both series. Elegant autumn-like textures such as the beautiful Belgian fabric with rich colors and refined ivory colored leather have been newly added. Now with the comfort of the cushioned seat, the new Roundish chair provides a more relaxed and comfortable sitting with its pleasant seat and back that fits to the body.

Lightwood will now be available in red and black finished birch; two colors that will look good with the birch’s texture; and oak which is known for its bold wood grains. The new color finishes that have been applied thinly to the wood surface give an elegant look combined with the silhouette of the chair and lightly noticeable wood grains. It is graceful but still has an eye-catching existence. The Corian top tables for Lightwood, which have been receiving many inquiries, will also be available for ordering.

Table sizes will be as follows: Roundish- W1600, 2000, 2400 (mm); and Lightwood- W1300, 1600, 1800, 2000, 2200, 2400 (mm). These multiple size options will help design any space.
*Corian table top is only available for Lightwood.

And for Hiroshima, it is now available in the much-awaited walnut material. Walnut will be available for the Armchair (wooden and cushioned seat), and the dining table (160/180/Extension table). The striking wood grains and the rich coloration of the walnut give deep relaxation and a luxurious look.

We’ve updated the reference images of our new products for Roundish and Lightwood.

The Roundish chair with its alluring comfort that lets the sitter feel embraced by the beautifully curved back, will now have an option with a cushioned seat. Cushioned seats will be ranging in a total of 5 materials and 25 colors, including a new beautiful fabric with rich colors and elegant ivory colored leather.
As for the light and elegant shaped Lightwood, new colors that will stand out in commercial spaces such as the eye-catching red and black, and oak material known for its bold wood grains have been added. Furthermore, the tables have more size variations, and the walnut material has been added to the Hiroshima.

We will hold an exhibition at our showroom in Tokyo this autumn, titled “Maruni Collection 2011 / Autumn”. At this exhibition, we will introduce new products from our Lightwood and Roundish series which were unveiled at Salone Internazionale del Mobile this spring.

New colours and an upholstery version are now available with both Roundish by Naoto Fukasawa and Lightwood by Jasper Morrison that were originally introduced in Spring 2011. Hiroshima is now available in walnut as well as in beech and oak.
Maruni Collection after its presentation during Milan Salone this year became one of the focus of public attention. Maruni Collection is available in more than 20 countries today. Maruni Wood Industry would like to continue to work as an international brand to further push forward the Japanese craftsmanship. Please enjoy our forthcoming events and activities.
