Maruni Collection 2013 / Tokyo Exhibition

The Maruni Collection 2013, we presented recently at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, was visited by a large number of persons, and we’re so glad to receive great feedback from media, visitors, and our partners.
Then, finally it’ll be unveiled in Tokyo as well.
At this exhibition, Maruni Collection 2013 Tokyo, our brand-new products, such as the Hiroshima folding chair with its exquisite grains, the comfortable Lightwood armchair, the Malta table made in solid wood which will increase its character the more it is used, and our new concept benches will be exhibited with a different look and atmosphere from that of the Salone.

We hope that you will greatly enjoy the exhibition held at the Tokyo showroom of Maruni wood industry, always fusing the tradition and the new, a building from the late ’20 that has been renovated to create warm and inviting space. We would like to cordially invite you to this event and look forward to your visit.

Maruni Collection 2013 – New Items

This year, the Maruni Collection marks its 6^th year since it was announced in 2008.

From the “Hiroshima”, designed by Naoto Fukasawa, we have added a beautiful wooden folding chair with silky surface, as well as a solid wood dining table, the “Malta”. This table goes well with any chair from the Maruni Collection and has a simple and warm design.
We also added a comfortable, relaxing armchair from the “Lightwood”, designed by Jasper Morrison. It uses a matt white color that has an impressive, subtle nuance.
For fabric, we have added a new pale blue color to the vivid and rich “SAGA”, and we are adding 4 colors that produce great color on smooth leather while keeping the nature leather texture.
Also, we are announcing two new projects for 2013: the “Asian Bench”, bench and stool designed by Naoto Fukasawa that fits in well with your everyday life, and the “Botan”, a bench designed by Jasper Morrison that can be enjoyed outdoors.

Maruni Wood Industry, having our 85th anniversary this year, will have its first independent booth at Rho Fiera Milano.

Maruni Wood Industry (head office: Hiroshima Pref.), celebrating our 85th anniversary in this May, will be presenting an exhibition at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in the Fiera main exhibition complex. This is the first time that Maruni will have our own individual booth at the Fiera main exhibition complex.

From our first exhibition in 2008, Maruni Collection has been adding products little by little as our world view has been expanding accordingly. This year, Maruni will be presenting a folding chair that has inherited a form with the presence of an armchair and a comfort that envelopes one’s body from the Hiroshima concept by Naoto Fukasawa, which has been receiving high praise since when it was launched, as well as an armchair from the Lightwood concept designed by Jasper Morrison. Also included in our exhibition is the Malta, dining table, made of solid wood that provides a simplicity and warmth enabling it to be matched with nearly any type of chair.
Besides, we’ll also show Asian Bench, designed by Naoto Fukasawa, that simply melts into your daily life, and the Botan bench from Jasper Morrison that can be enjoyed outdoors as well.
Our art director, Naoto Fukasawa, will again organize the exhibition site as he did last year.
This is the sixth year for the Maruni Collection. Maruni will continue presenting refined Japanese craftsmanship and our aesthetic sense to rediscover original spirits of the wood.. We are greatly looking forward to your visit.

The Lightwood Chair to join the permanent collection at the Design Museum

The Lightwood Chair, designed by Jasper Morrison, has been selected as part of the permanent collection of the Design Museum in London.
The Design Museum was founded by Terence Conran and Stephen Bayley in 1989, and has since focused on the history of design and the development of contemporary design. Currently, development of a new museum space by John Pawson is underway and is expected to be completed in 2015. The Lightwood Chair has been selected as part of the collection for the new museum. We hope you look forward to its opening.

The Lightwood Chair
Features an elegant form and only weighs 2.5 kg, which is exceptional for a wooden chair. Its beautiful structure can be seen through the mesh sheet, giving it an even lighter look. A year and half since its launch, the Lightwood chair, designed by Jasper Morrison, has been very well received as residential furniture as well as a piece for commercial facilities.
Lightwood Chair was created in collaboration with Jasper Morrison’s sophisticated design and MARUNI’s elaborate craftsmanship and solid technique to achieve the upmost light wooden structure furniture.

We will present a manufacturing process video of the Lightwood chair to show the beautiful construction of the chair.

RED Exhibition at The Conran Shop UK

We are pleased to announce that the red-colored version of the Lightwood chair will be shown at RED, a special exhibition held by The Conran Shop for the London Design Festival 2012.
More than 40 designers including Jasper Morrison will show theirred-colored products for this exhibition.

The RED exhibition is also the first one to be held at the Blue Room,the new exhibition space at The Conran Shop to celebrate 25 yearsanniversary of the Michelin Building.

From Maruni Wood Industry, the red-colored Lightwood chair by the designer Jasper Morrison was chosen for the exhibition. We hope you will enjoy this special occasion and the London Design Festival.
