Helsinki Home Renovation with Tako Armchair

Joanna Amemori, a talented interior architect at Artek, shares her recent renovation of her Helsinki home. Despite its initial disrepair, she found beauty in its original features, guiding her desire to blend heritage with modernity. Proportion, comfort, materiality, and form shaped her vision, creating an airy yet intimate space.

In her view, when designing a space, it’s crucial to consider the proportions of both the room and the furniture, ensuring a harmonious rhythm, while prioritizing comfort through thoughtful material choices and ergonomic design. Simultaneously, playing with forms adds visual interest and personality.

In selecting furniture, she sought pieces that not only complement the space but also resonate with her design philosophy. Reflecting on her choices, she notes, “Maruni as a brand represents very high quality of design and craftsmanship. The service is also kind and trustworthy. From Maruni’s selection, you can find furniture to suit many different styles and needs.”

Amongst the Maruni Collection, the Tako Armchair, with its effortless form and tactile allure, captured her heart. “I instantly fell in love with the ease of the form. It looks as if the tree wanted to grow in the shape of the Tako Armchair.” In addition to praising the chair “comfortable and beautiful”, Amemori also says that the chair offers relaxation to her guests as they love to sit on it and stroke the smooth surfaces. “We call it the therapy chair because it feels so comforting to touch.”

Integrating Japanese design like Maruni into Finnish interiors felt natural, reflecting shared values of quality and simplicity. “We both have long traditions in using wood and a strong knowing of how to work with it,” she muses. “The HIROSHIMA Armchair is also one of the popular luxurious dining chairs that many of my customers dream of,” she adds.

Indeed, in the harmonious marriage of Finnish and Japanese design lies a celebration of shared values, timeless elegance, and the enduring allure of craftsmanship.
