T&O in Motion: The New T1 Task Chair

Photography: Yoneo Kawabe

The T1 Task Chair builds upon the inviting form of the original T&O series. Designed by Jasper Morrison, the chair brings the warmth and tactility of wood into a functional, mobile format for contemporary workspaces. Its wooden seat and backrest, crafted with the same care and simplicity as the original T Chair, are now set on a dynamic four-legged base. This addition brings movement and flexibility to the design, enabling it to adapt seamlessly to the rhythm of modern life.

A new base made of textured matte steel supports this transformation. Its clean lines and distinctive geometry echo the visual identity of the T&O series while offering stability and smooth maneuverability. The quiet strength of steel contrasts beautifully with the soft grain of solid wood — a hallmark of the collection’s balanced materiality.

“The T&O series, introduced in 2016, has expanded over the years with new additions. The latest is a task chair for workspaces, combining the warmth of wood with a functional steel base. Its versatility makes it suitable for various settings beyond the workspace.” — Jasper Morrison

The seat features a softly rounded edge to prevent pressure on the backs of the thighs, while the gently tilted backrest provides relaxed support for long hours of use. With its harmonious blend of natural material and modern functionality, the T1 Task Chair brings a quiet elegance to home offices, creative studios, and collaborative spaces alike. It is available in maple, ash, or oak — each lending its own tone and texture to the sculptural clarity of the design.
