One of the armless chairs that was announced in the first series of the Nextmaruni project was designed by AZUMI/Shin Azumi & Tomoko Azumi, and our manufacturing technology was concentrated into this one chair.

The comfortable chair with a well-established reputation was reborn in oak wood, which was logged in North America where these trees are cut with environmental planning. The original material used was the Solomon Mahogany wood.
We'd like you to feel the new attraction that has been born from the oak wood.

One of Nextmaruni's chairs designed by SANAA (a partnership of 2 architects), popular for its lovable shape, will be available in various colors this autumn. After serious deliberation, the following six colors were chosen among a huge selection of sample colors: Pink, Green, Yellow, White-Beige, Brown and Dark-Grey. In collaboration with the chair’s adorable “rabbit” silhouette, each color provides a new enjoyment and appeal to the chairs.

These same armless chairs are being used at the Serpentine Gallery in London for its temporary Pavilion of 2009 designed by SANAA. (Colors were especially prepared for this Pavilion)

< Specialized Coating >
The natural-clear finish type is coated with a transparent-colored polyurethane resin to maximize the beauty of the wood surface. However with these new colors, nearly twice the time and effort is taken to double-coating, in order to express the colors vividly.

< Coating Method >
(1) First the white-colored base coating is painted as a foundation, then is carefully polished with sandpaper to smooth out the surface.
(2) The carefully mixed color is painted onto the polished base, and the surface is polished once again. The tiny particle of the white-base coating helps to create a smoother surface. By recoating this surface with the colored paint, it produces an even and highly-adhesive color film coating.
(3) Polyurethane resin is coated above the color film, finishing off the surface so that the coating is damage and stain-proof, requiring little maintenance.
By carefully repeating each coating method by the hand of a craftsman, an even and vivid colored finish is made possible.

* These products will be on display at the Maruni Tokyo Showroom from late October. We look forward to your visit.
